Social Studies

We have decided as a class to study the Inuit people as our Aboriginal study unit.  If you happen to have any items at home that would relate to this unit we would love to borrow them to look at. 

Field Trip

Please let me know as soon as you can if you are able to drive for our field trip Monday morning.  I have 3 more adult tickets available.

Thursday – Wacky hair and clothes day – moustache competition at lunch

Friday – PJ/Movie Day, curling during Phys. Ed.

All week – submit jokes with a cow or milk theme

Social Studies

We have recently begun a social studies unit which looks into different communities in Canada with a little bit of depth.  This unit will consist of a few different types of projects and possibly a field trip.  We are currently talking about Aboriginal people.

Math

Both grade 1s and 2s are working on patterns in the hundred chart.  Grade 1s are focusing on counting by 5s and 10s.  Grade 2s are working with a variety of vocabulary pertaining to the patterns in the hundred chart. 

Grade 1s have also been working on both addition and subtraction number stories.

January Reminders

Now that everyone is back into their regular routines it is time to check that all of the regular responsibilities in our classroom are being looked after.  Reading logs are due every Monday.  Spelling tests are on Fridays.  Agendas should be signed every day.  Your signature in the agenda tells me that you have checked for homework and notes.  Homework is due back the next day unless other arrangements have been made.  If there is no sticker in the agenda please ask your child why.  This is your sign that there was an issue at school during the day.

Happy New Year!  Hope you had a fantastic Christmas break.  So far our time back at school has been great this year! 

Star Student – This week’s Star Student is Mason! 

This week we will jump right back into the usual routines.  Reading logs will be due again starting next week Monday.  There will be a spelling test this week as well.  Words should have come back today.

Grade 1 students should bring in their word rings so that they can get new words added this week.

We have just wrapped the Five Senses unit and Science and will be beginning a new Social Studies unit.
