Country Week - France

Well, we're here!  The week before Spring Break.  Reports cards are done.  Student-led conferences are complete.  It's country week...and it's snowing.

Each day this week students will rotate through stations that will teach them about the culture, music, dance, sport, art and food of France.  On Thursday evening we will meet together in the evening to celebrate all the learning happening at school this week.

On Wednesday we will be heading to MTYP for the afternoon to see ZooZoo.  I may require one more driver so if you are available please let me know.  Please remember to send a booster seat if your child requires one.  Also, students should wear their blue BSLS shirts for the trip.

New spelling words will not be sent home this week.

Reading BINGO pages can be completed over Spring Break.

You have probably already seen our classroom community project but here are a few pictures of it coming together.

And just for fun...here we are in the snow!

Last week we had the privilege of working with Ms. Sue Proctor on a variety of drama exercises.  We finished the week with a mini presentation for the K-2 classes.  Here's a few pictures of what we were working on.

This week:
Monday: Portfolio Work
Tuesday: Spelling Test, Conferences
Wednesday: Conferences
Thursday:
Friday: Final Drama Performance by Grades 3-8, Book Order Due, Field Trip Form Due

Next week is Country Week.  We are studying France.  We will rotate through a variety of mini workshops with various teachers to learn all about the country of France.  Thursday next week there will be a special evening of celebration.

Our field trip happens to fall during Country Week on Wednesday.  So far we do not have any drivers.  Please return your forms as soon as you are able so that I can ensure we do have enough drivers.

Please remember to return the report card envelope with a signature.  Thank you!

March!

Artists in the School Week

This week our class will have Ms. Proctor in our classroom for an hour each day to teach us drama.  The students have already spent time today exploring movement and sound.  They are working on preparing a dramatization of a French story.

Below are pictures of the Grade 1 students working on counting by 10s and 5s to 100.  They are using hands and feet to do so.

Grade 2s are just beginning an addition/subtraction to 100 unit.  We will spend a fair amount of time working on two digit addition and subtraction over the next while.

I love to Read Month has come to an end.  We were able to meet our reading goal.  A new March reading incentive will go home this week.  The students have requested that we continue having a student reader each day.  Having the students read in front of the class is a great way for them to practice their presentation skills and build confidence as readers.  I look forward to hearing them read to their peers in the future.

Reminders
If you have not yet sent in the Student Led Conference sign up sheet please do so.  The schedule is being finalized and you will be notified of your time slot.
Report cards go home on Friday this week.
