Pumpkin Week!

Friday

Students are welcome to bring a costume to wear in the afternoon on Friday.
There are just a few guidelines for this occasion:
- no scary costumes
- no blood, guts, weapons
- students can't wear a mask (they can bring it to show)
- students need to be able to put on the costume on their own

The students have requested to bring in food for this event.  If you would like to send in a finger food snack please remember that we have nut allergies in our classroom.  Small items like mini cupcakes, cookies, rice Krispie squares or Halloween candy are ideal.

Grade 2 French

Students are playing a student led game of french colour bingo.  These grade 2 students have mastered their french colours!

We also wrote our own colour books, in French.

Grade 2 math

Grade 2s are working on estimation right now.  Here they estimated the number of blocks in a pile.  To count, we organized the pieces using ten frames.  This is helping us solidify our understanding of making numbers using tens and ones.

Social Studies

This week we are working to learn the words: Urban, Rural and Suburban.  We made a booklet to help us keep the characteristics of each type of community straight.

We have also been talking about important places in our community.  Each student completed a page for our class book.

Have a great week!

Short Week

This past week we worked on completing our "Where in the World" booklets.  We are working on a Community unit in Social Studies in which we will look more closely at our Local Community in the coming weeks.  Our trip to the Aviation museum will also cover this topic, and extend into our Canadian Community.

We spent some time last week working on a Fall art project using various colours and textures.  The pumpkin patch is also complete.

Both Grade 2s and Grade 3s are continuing work on numbers in Math class.  Grade 2s are focused on even/odd and currency right now.  Grade 3s are working on building numbers to 1000 in a variety of ways.

The Grade 2s are working on a French Colour book right now.  They look great so far!

Thank you for continuing to practice reading and spelling daily.

Please keep an eye on the calendar to the right, it will keep you posted on upcoming important dates.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving!  Students made thankful turkeys last week, as well as a Thanksgiving book.  I hope they had a chance to share their book with you during the weekend.

Although it is a four day week routines are as usual.  Students should be practicing their spelling sort, and reading, each day.  Guided Reading Groups have officially begun.  Watch for extra reading materials (and possibly homework) coming home this week.

In Social Studies we are beginning a unit about our Local Community.  We are learning about our place in the world right now.  On Tuesday, November 4th we will go on a field trip to the Aviation Museum to learn more about our Canadian Community.  This workshop will also teach us about Remembrance Day.  Watch for the permission form this week.

Grade 2 Math - students are working hard on using number lines and 100 charts to show counting by 2s, 5s, and 10s, starting on any number.

Grade 3 Math - students are just beginning a new unit on Numbers to 1000.

Meet your new teacher: Ms. Moss

It sounds like the Grade 2/3 students had a very good, and very productive week!
I have heard that there is a buzz around school about the new Ms. Moss.  Here are just a couple pictures of the big day for the curious students (or parents).  Thank you for the many Congratulatory messages!

Reading Groups:  This week students will begin guided reading groups.  They will meet at least once a week to work in a small group at targeted reading goals.  Some groups will receive homework each week.  Every group is expected to practice their reading book independently during the week.

Please keep your eye on the calendar in the side bar for upcoming reminders and events.

Happy Thanksgiving to your family!  Enjoy the long weekend.
