Almost May!

We have made it to the end of April, and have learned so much. Although the end of the school year is quickly approaching we do still have a lot more learning to do.

We have just begun a study of Nunavut. This will be our focus in Social Studies over the next little while.

The grade 3s took home their math Measurement Test today. Please sign it and return it to school. They are now working on a Fractions unit.

Grade 2s have just begun a math unit on Data Analysis. They will be collecting data, creating graphs, and analyzing the data.

I wonder what these painted pages will become? This is step one of a 3D art project we are currently working on.

Reminders:
Wednesday, April 29 - hot lunch orders due
Thursday, April 30 - Jump Rope for Heart envelopes due

Have a great week!

New Units

This week marks the beginning of a couple of new units in our classroom. We completed our study of Solids, Liquids and Gases with a root beer float party on Friday. Luckily, it was a very warm day and we were able to head outside.

We are now going to shift our focus to a social studies unit about Communities in Canada. We will spend time looking at communities of the past, and the present.

Grade 3s are ready to write their final test for the math Measurement unit. Their next unit of study will be fractions.

Grade 2s are still working hard on 2D shapes and 3D objects.

Have a fabulous week!

Mixing Things

This past week and this coming week we are doing a mini unit about States of Matter in Science class. This is where the pudding and jello snacks that you may have heard about fit in. We have done experiments about mixing things, and things that float. So far we have had a lot of fun learning through discovery. I wonder what else this week will hold?

This is the Ooblek that we made after reading Bartholomew and the Oobleck by Dr. Seuss.

Here we mixed a solid and a liquid and it became pudding.

Here we mixed a solid and a liquid, again but got jello.

Finally, a couple of items that took the sink or float test.

Grade 3s are working on finishing up a math unit about Measurement. This past week they have practised measuring the perimeter of various things. Next we will work on mass.

Grade 2s are working on 2D and 3D shapes and objects. Here is one of our creations.

Have a great week!

Welcome Back!

I hope everyone had a great Easter celebration with family and friends. He is Risen!

The students have settled right back into their normal routines today. Some parts of our schedule were a little off since it was a Tuesday start to the week instead of a Monday. Everything should be right on schedule within a couple of days. I will catch up on reading group days as the week progresses. There will be no spelling this week.

Today we spent time reviewing the events of Holy Week and writing about it. Here are a few examples.

Oh, and this is the completed TeePee.

Have a great week!
