February 27

February 27, 2012
Dear Grade 1/2 Parents,
Spelling – List #20 – Test Friday
Huge thanks for helping keep your child organized for all of the events happening this month! I appreciate all that you are doing to help us celebrate I Love to Read Month in our classroom.
Recycling – Yes, it’s true! Your child was asked to bring in a bag of recycling this week. We are going to be looking at the different types of materials and building a project. Please ensure all items are clean and free of sharp edges. Thank you!
Recess – We have made some changes to the recess arrangements at school. The morning and afternoon recesses have been divided into two sections to reduce the number of students playing on the playground at a time. So far this seems to be working well for everyone.
Reading Record – February – students have a bag of hearts. Each day/evening that they read they are to put their name on a heart and return it to school. The hearts will be used to build our bulletin board in our classroom.
February 29 – You may have noticed on the February calendar that parents are invited to our classroom at 2:30 on February 29. This time is meant to be a final celebration of I Love to Read month. Students will share some of their work with you, or just read some of their favourite classroom books with you. Please RSVP to me so I know how many people to expect. I understand that not all parents are able to attend. I will ensure that students without a parent present are grouped together to participate.

Spirit Week

Dear Grade 1/2 Parents,
Spelling – List #18 – Test Friday
February is I Love to Read Month! There is still space on the schedule for volunteer readers! If you would like to come in on one of those days to read to the class please let me know. I’m looking forward to a month full of fun learning experiences.
100 Day! is Thursday. Students are asked to bring in some type of 100 collection. It can be simple or elaborate. It could be in a bag or in a box, or even on a poster. The more creative the better!
Artists in the School – We had a fabulous time creating art projects last week. Students worked with a variety of materials and techniques. They enjoyed the experience and learned a lot. I hope you`ve had a chance to see some of the projects!
Reading Record – February – students have a bag of hearts. Each day/evening that they read they are to put their name on a heart and return it to school. The hearts will be used to build our bulletin board in our classroom.

February is I Love to Read Month! There is still space on the schedule for volunteer readers! If you would like to come in on one of those days to read to the class please let me know. I’m looking forward to a month full of fun learning experiences.
Artists in the School – Grade 1 and 2 will participate in art classes Tuesday through Friday. Students are asked to bring a paint smock or old shirt that they can wear. It may be a good week to wear ‘work’ clothes rather than ‘fancy’ clothes. Looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun!
Valentine’s – We will have a party on Valentine’s Day in our classroom. There is still space to sign up to bring food for the party. The sign up sheet is outside of our classroom door. Students have received a list of their classmates names for writing out their valentine cards. If students choose to hand out valentine cards they need to bring one for everyone in the class. It is important that we teach our children to include everyone in such situations. God’s love is in fact for everyone to share!
