Last Week of February!

It is the final week of I Love to Read!  Today we recorded our book talks. This week we will have Pastor read to us. We will be learning about non-fiction. Wednesday is snuggle and read day.  Friday is dress up like your favourite character.

Last week we had a great time learning about Festival du Voyageur. While the grade 3s were on their trip the Grade 2s made a pin of the official mascot.

During indoor recess we chose to be active by practicing Just Dance for Kids.

This past week the grade 2s completed their math unit on Measurement. We are now working on addition and subtraction to 100.

Grade 3s are almost finished addition and subtraction to 1000. The test date will be decided on soon.

In science we are wrapping up our unit on Position and Motion. The final project will be assigned this week. Students will need materials from home to complete the project. They may also need some help finishing the project at home.

Have a great week!

Festival Week

This week we will focus on Festival du Voyageur. Today we had a special visitor at school.

On Thursday the grade 3 students will go on their French field trip. They will be outside so they need appropriate clothing. Please send booster seats if needed. Each student that brings $3 will sample maple taffy while on the trip.

Everyone is encouraged to dress like a voyageur on Friday.

Art

This past week we learned about warm and cool colours. We completed our valentine art using the concept.

Last week we celebrated 100 day!!  Here are a few of our collections.

We celebrated Valentine's Day with a card exchange party. We also wrote valentine cards to God.

I Love to Read: week 2

This past week we spent time looking at story basics. Here are some examples of our work with Beginning, Middle, End and Setting.

Today we took our list of things that we love to the computer lab and created a Tagxedo with the words.  "This was so much fun!"

Grade 2s are learning about French outdoor clothing and activities.  We even got dressed up to complete our work.

Grade 2s are working on measuring height, length, and distance around. This week we will begin mass.

Thursday was Wear Words day.  Here are our T-shirts with words!

This week:
Wednesday - trip to MTYP - bring booster seats
Thursday - bring a 100 day collection
Friday - V-day celebration

I love to read month!

February is my favourite month to be a teacher!  There are so many things to celebrate.  This year we are doing a full month of I Love to Read activities.  We will also have a week to celebrate Festival du Voyageur.  We have Valentine's and Louis Riel Day to look forward to as well.

February Calendar
For the month of February each student has a calendar with all of the special events listed. Some days just list the theme of our studies for the day, while other days have a task assigned to them.

Spelling
During the month of February each student is challenged to complete spelling BINGO.  The BINGO card is dark pink. It contains various boxes with spelling homework ideas. Students should colour in the boxes for the activities that they complete. The BINGO card is due on February 27th. Each row that is complete will be rewarded with a special prize!

Reading
Each student is asked to keep track of their reading during the month of February. Each day that a student reads 20 minutes or more, outside of school, they can fill in a ticket on their tracking sheet. These tracking sheets are due on February 27th.  Reading awards will be presented that day.

This past week:

Science - We have begun a new unit about Position and Motion.  Here are a few pictures of us exploring different ways to put things into Motion.  We have had a lot of fun learning the cha cha slide dance, and playing a version of Simon Says.  These two activities are helping us learn our left and right.

Math - Grade 2s are working at measurement with non-standard units.  This week we practiced measuring with just one unit, rather than multiple units.  Take a look.

Math - Grade 3s are working on double digit addition and regrouping.  Their favourite way to solve these problems is with the iPad app mentioned in a previous post.

Religion/ELA - The story of Joseph is familiar to most of the class, but still very interesting.  Since the class showed such an interest in this story we decided to use it to practice summarizing and re-telling skills.  We are working on writing and illustrating our own versions of the story.

Artist in the School - We had so much FUN learning the positions of a camera crew and practicing being part of the crew, and the actors.  We can't wait to see the finished product in the near future!

Request - If you are able to send in cardboard paper tubes we would appreciate it.  We will need some before Valentine's Day.  Thank you!
