First Week Update!

We have only spent a few days together and already we have learned so much. We have spent time getting to know each other as well as the classroom and school routines. It is definitely going to be a great year!
A few things you need to know about:
Star Student the schedule is being sent home today. Please make note of your scheduled date and let me know of any conflicts as soon as you can.
Shoes – students need to have indoor running shoes (and socks) for Phys. Ed. that they can put on by themselves. They also need outdoor shoes that are appropriate for playing on the structure and running. It is a good idea to keep an extra pair of socks in their backpack/locker.
Snack – Students are given 5 minutes in the morning to have a healthy snack. Please ensure they know which part of their lunch kit is the snack. It is best if the snack is easy and quick to eat without preparation/heating time.
Lunch – A microwave is available to heat food, not to cook food. Please send food in a container that can be placed in the microwave.
Water Bottles – Students may keep a water bottle in the classroom at all times. Other beverages are for snack/lunch time only.
Classroom Schedule – The classroom schedule is being finalized and will be sent home once all routines are in place.
SMARTBoard – Our classroom is having a SMARTBoard installed this week. During the first set of student-led conferences this year students will show you how they use it in the classroom.
Home Visits – if you have not yet had a home visit and would like to arrange one please let me know. I would be more than happy to come by after school sometime.
Weekly Page – Each week I will create a news page just like this one. This page will be emailed to you if I have your current email address. If you require a hard copy as well please let me know. Please check your inbox today for your first email from me. Let me know if you do not receive it.
Agenda - Students will write down reminders and homework each day. They will receive a behaviour sticker if they had a good day. If there is no sticker you will find a short note from me. Please sign the agenda each day. Your signature tells me that you have seen the agenda and completed any homework sent home the night before. Feel free to add messages as needed.
Reading Records – Students who read at least five days of the week will earn a reading sticker on the class chart. Students will bring home a book at their reading level in their folder. When they have read it they will return it and exchange it for a new one. New reading records will be sent home each week. Please record reading homework on the reading record and sign it at the end of each week.
Class Parties – During the year we will have parties for Halloween, Christmas, Valentines, and the end of the year. Parents will be able to bring in food for those events.
Birthdays – We will celebrate birthdays in our classroom. Students are welcome to bring a treat to share with the class during snack time. Treats should be easy to distribute (i.e. rice krispies, cookies, cupcakes). Please do not send cakes.
This Month: Sept. 12 Miss Ostryk; Sept. 15 Reece
Allergies – Our school is nut free. Our classroom has peanut allergies. Please do not send any nuts at all. When preparing birthday or party treats please take this into consideration so that all students can participate. Thank you!
Thank you for your help in getting this year off to a great start!
