Dear Grade 1/2 Parents,
Spelling – List #16 – Test Thursday
February is I Love to Read Month! Attached you will find a calendar full of exciting events for the month. You will notice that there are several days where a guest reader is invited to stop by and read a book. If you would like to come in on one of those days to read to the class please let me know.

Word Rings: now have white, blue and yellow words.
February 3 – Principal for the Day – our special ‘guest’ principal for the day has made it Sports Day! Wear your team jersey or t-shirt. Shhh….Grade 1 and 2 is also wearing hats for the day to celebrate I Love to Read Month.

January 23

Dear Grade 1/2 Parents,
Spelling – List #15 – Test Friday
Grade 1 Math – Grade 1s are starting to get the odd math page for homework. The pages should be written down in the agenda. We are at that point in the year where the Grade 1s are expected to be looking after just a few more responsibilities than before. Did you also notice that their spelling list has increased in size?
Grade 2 Math – Have you seen a math game come home yet? You should have. Have you been challenged to play it? The grade 2s have become really good at doing mental math over the last little while.
Reading Record – January – colour a mitten on the snowman page for each day of reading. Return them at the end of the month.

Dear Grade 1/2 Parents,

Spelling – List #14 – Test Friday

New Year - New Units – Last week we did a number of New Year’s activities to settle back into routine.  We studied words, learned about goals, practiced time on the clock, and practiced antonyms, compound words, and homophones.

This week we are beginning several new units.  We are moving ahead in Math, Science, Social Studies and French.

Grade 1s are going to focus on many different strategies for adding and subtracting numbers up to 20.

Grade 2s are focusing on mental math strategies for addition and subtraction.  Grade 2s will be bringing home math games (as homework) to challenge you with.

Reading Record – January – colour a mitten on the snowman page for each day of reading.  Return them at the end of the month.

Happy New Year!

Dear Grade 1/2 Parents,

It was so good to see everyone today after a wonderful two week break.  We had a fabulous day together!  I want to thank all of you for your kind words, cards and gifts.  After being sick for a couple days right before Christmas I was welcomed back with an overwhelming amount of gratitude.  I am so glad that your children are in my class this year and that I get to work with all of you!  I am looking forward to the rest of the year!

We spent a good chunk of today talking about the New Year and doing themed work.  We will continue with that theme for part of this week.

Spelling – List #13 – Test Friday

Word Rings – A set of Blue words was added/sent home today.  Please continue to practice the sight words.  Another new set will be added very soon.

Reading Record – will go home tomorrow.  The reading record will be for the month of January.

Please feel free to contact me any time with questions or concerns.  I am here to help you and your child have a fabulous and successful year!
