Spelling – List #22 – Test Thursday
Have you checked out our class blog lately? New links are added whenever we work on something new in the Technology Lab. There is a great site listed for practicing weekly spelling words. The kids know how to type in their words and play the available games.
Thank you to everyone who came in for our I Love to Read Month celebration. It’s great to see parents and students engaged in learning activities at school.
Recycling – Yes, it’s true! Your child was asked to bring in a bag of recycling this week. We are going to be looking at the different types of materials and building a project. Please ensure all items are clean and free of sharp edges. Thank you!
Reading Record – March – READO – Students have an orange READO card in their homework folder. The class goal is for everyone to have ‘black-out’ (every square complete) on their READO card when they return from March Break. If the goal is reached there will be a class party.
Since most students in our class already have a habit of reading daily the activities this month are focused on reading strategies to further develop their before, during, and after reading skills. This will mainly require discussions about their reading. Nothing needs to be filled out or handed in (just the orange card at the end of the month).
Several parents have approached me about reading homework. I’ve been asked about consequences, rewards, incentives, strategies etc. All students are expected to do daily reading homework at their reading level (which they should know). This month there will be a class incentive to complete the work. I encourage you to also put in place routines and strategies at home that are effective for your child. Some parents have a homework routine which they require their child to complete before playtime/tv time. Some parents only sign the agenda after all homework is completed. Other parents have their own consequences in place for when homework is not completed. Reading is like any other skill that requires consistent practice. The only person that suffers when homework is not completed is the student.
