Merry Christmas

Thank you for sending in your traditional recipes and treats for our party. Everyone was given a recipe book as a gift. Enjoy!

We helped package up the Christmas Hampers this week:
(my apologies, I did not realize the ipad camera lens was dirty until after taking the pics)

Noah shared a story to go with his traditional recipe for rice cake.

Last Week of 2014

Thank you to everyone that contributed to our classroom hamper. We were able to collect all of the items on the suggested list, plus extras!!

We have finished our family portraits. They are part of our Social Studies unit that covers our families, and traditions.

Grade 2 French
Students put presents underneath our classroom trees using French Christmas vocabulary as the gifts. They are outside our classroom door. Stop by for a peek.

If you haven't yet completed the Interview with an Elder, or the Family Recipe please do so ASAP.
This week there is spelling homework.  We will do the usual spelling test on Friday morning.

Wednesday - Grade 3 Violin trip - remember a bag lunch, booster seat and a BSLS shirt

Thursday - Please arrive at the Caboto Centre for 5:45pm.  Students should be wearing Christmas clothing (or something nice) with appropriate footwear.  Don't forget your violin!

Friday - We will be having a food sampling party in the afternoon.  Please ensure that items sent to school are peanut and allergy safe.

Christmas Preparations

Christmas Hamper - The sign up sheet for our classroom Christmas hamper is up. Thank you to everyone that has donated items. I am looking for someone to deliver the hamper next week. We also need two gifts. One for a seven year old boy, and one for a 1 year old girl. Also, we could use a few reusable grocery bags to pack the items in.

Grade 3 math students working at estimating numbers to 1000.

Social Studies - After studying family trees we have started talking about family traditions, specifically Christmas traditions. Caleb shared about his Elf on the Shelf tradition. Watch for homework about family traditions coming home this week.

Christmas Concert

Next week Thursday is our school Christmas concert. Details for the night of the concert were sent out in an email from Mrs. McCrea last week.

Family trees

December!!

Preparations are well underway for this busy, yet exciting month. We have been talking about preparing our hearts for the coming of the Saviour. This month we will work through Advent devotions that teach the Christmas story.

Family Tree Projects

Wow! They all are fantastic. We were hoping to put them all up but they are so large we may be challenged to do so. Here are pictures from the students who have already completed their presentations. The rest of the presentations will take place this week.

Last Week of November

Please note: the violin trip on December 5 is only for the grade 3s.

Our class is responsible for presenting a short skit on Jesus Healing Lepers during chapel this week. This is the modern day movie trailer that we created. Thank you to the students that brought in costumes.

This past week we had some university students help us build bridges to conclude our studies of structures.

During conferences I had several people ask about iPad apps that we are using. One that I recommend for spelling is Word Wizard.  This is a great tool for sounding out words and practicing the words in the sort list each week.

Student Led Conferences

Report Cards & Conferences

Report cards went home Friday.  Please sign and return the envelopes.  I am looking forward to seeing everyone at Student-Led Conferences this week.  Please remember that the students have worked hard to prepare their portfolios for you to see.  They have included samples of their work, and learning goals to share with you.

Class Party

The students have earned a class party for demonstrating good listening in the classroom.  On Thursday they are welcome to bring a stuffy for the day.  We will also be watching a movie.  If you have a G rated movie you'd like to send in it would be greatly appreciated.

Grade 3 Violins

There is an out of school performance for the Grade 3 violins on Friday.  Please remember your booster seats and bag lunches.

Short Week

We created a Canadian citizen together, Jon William, who was a character in a story that we wrote demonstrating behaviours of a good community citizen.

We took a tour of the museum and even got to go on a plane!

Junior Achievement visited our classroom and we learned about why it is important to have a job.  We talked about different jobs in our community.  Students were given homework in which they were to interview one or two adults about their job.

Yesterday we had a special presentation about Recycling in our classroom.  We got to play a few
games related to recycling.
