March

Artist in the School

Last week we had the privilege of learning African drumming.  The artist: Mr. Coffie, challenged the students to write, paint or draw about their experience and bring it in to school to share with the class.  I can't wait to see who took him up on this challenge.

This past week we did an art contrast and compare project.  We looked at illustrations of fish in various storybooks and tried out a couple of the techniques.  We tried using paper cutouts to create fish.  We also used oil pastels and paint.  You can see our work on our bulletin board in the hallway.

I Love to Read Month comes to an end

All good things come to an end.  This past week we blogged about our experiences during I Love to Read month.  Each student has a blog page they can post on at Kidblog.org.  The link is on the sidebar of this blog.  Student blog entries can only be viewed by logging in.  Each student knows the password to get in.  Please ask them to show you their work.  We are using these pages to learn about online etiquette and safety.

Spelling Homework

Each week each student is given a new word sort.  The expectation is that they practice their word sort every day at least once.  On Friday they write a spelling test based on those words.  The spelling test results have been sent home numerous times in the past couple of months.  If you have any questions about this routine please let me know.
