Comprehension Strategies

This week we began an in-depth look into reading comprehension strategies.

Here is our reading salad which shows us that there is more thinking involved in 'real' reading than there is text.  We also talked about 'fake' reading.

Yes - we learned the word Metacognition.  Here's a picture of the same concept, more for the visual learners.

To show our thinking while reading the text we take turns using the thought bubble.

SCIENCE - exploration with magnets

MATH - Both grades are wrapping up the Data Analysis units.  Grade 3s will now begin multiplication and division.  Grade 2s will do review, focused on numbers to 100, specifically addition and subtraction with carrying and borrowing.

Another 4 day week?

Happy Easter!
He is Risen!

Last week we did a number of activities related to Easter.  I hope that your child shared their Easter story booklet with you over the weekend.  Above is a snapshot of our empty cross art project.  We used tape to cover the area we wanted white and then covered the remainder of the page with chalk pastels.  Although it was a bit messy, and dusty, the pages look beautiful now!

This week we hope to get our Country projects close to completion.  Most of the research has been completed at school.  We will begin working on editing and good copies.

Spelling will be as usual this week.

Reminders:
Wednesday - Pizza Lunch
Friday - Book Order Due

Four Day Week

This week we are working on writing out the Easter story in a booklet that students will bring home to share with their families over the Easter weekend.  Each day we learn about part of the Easter story and watch a video online that goes together with that event.

To celebrate Spring we made beautiful bouquets.  The egg cartons that you sent in helped us create a variety of types of 3D flowers.  Thank you!

In math class both grades are currently working on Data Analysis.  Students have been collecting a variety of types of data and creating different graphs.

In Social Studies we have started working on Country projects.  Each student has selected a different country to study and is doing research in the Technology Lab.  We look forward to sharing these finished projects with you!

Reminders:

Wednesday: Volunteer Appreciation - 8:30am
Thursday: Pizza Orders are due
