Thank you for sending extra clothing and appropriate outdoor clothing during this slushy weather. The students are having so much fun outside, and it makes life easier when they have dry clothing to change into afterwards.
This past week the grade 1s have been working hard to count objects in groupings of 2s, 5s, and 10s.
Grade 2s are adding double digits and regrouping. This is a great concept to spend extra time practicing at home. If you'd like printable materials to help with this please let me know.
Our current Social Studies unit is a comparison study of Lunenburg, Nova Scotia and Winnipeg. We have already learned so many new things about this interesting town.
You may notice some new reading books coming home with your child (photocopied versions of leveled readers). These are books that we have already read in class and they are sent home as extra practice. Please return them to school each day. Students are still expected to choose a book from the bins in the classroom for daily reading homework.
This week there is a book order due on Friday, late orders will not be accepted.
Have a great week!
Please drop in often to see what we are up to! Celebrations of our learning experiences will be posted regularly.

Rainbows
I hope that you had a fabulous weekend. Once again we have jumped right into another school week. We wrapped up a portion of our Community unit in Social Studies today. Each student should have their booklet in their homework folder to show you tonight. These booklets should be returned to school afterwards so that they can go into our portfolios.
Now that we have a broad understanding of Community and a good sense of our own Community in Winnipeg we are going to head over to Nova Scotia and take a look at life on the Atlantic ocean. This should give us a good picture of the diversity in our Country.
I hope you had a chance to take a look at our Resurrection Story crosses that were on the bulletin board last week.
Grade 1s are just finishing a math unit on numbers to 100. We have worked hard at counting by 2s up to 30, 5s up to 100 and 10s up to 100. These are concepts that you can practice at home.
Grade 2s are working hard at learning strategies to add double digit numbers to 100. So far so good. We are relying heavily on a solid understanding of tens and ones.
Watch for our 3D rainbow art in the hallway! Have a great week.

April
It's nice to be back to routine again. I hope that you had a great spring break and Easter celebration. The kids were eager to share their stories and adventures with their friends today. We settled right back into our usual routines and accomplished a lot today!
It was so wonderful to see such a large representation from our class at Country Night. I hope that the students shared their passports from the week with you. They had a lot of fun learning all about France.
Each student in our class also made a set of Resurrection Eggs before spring break. Perhaps you had a chance to use them while reflecting on the Easter story this past weekend.
Just a couple of reminders:
Spring Weather - it's a great idea to have extra mittens and socks in the backpack or locker. An entire change of clothes is not a bad idea either. Rubber boots and splash pants also help. Those giant puddles are always attacking the kids outside...
School Supplies - we're at that point in the year where pencils run out, glue sticks run dry, and crayon colours are few. You may want to double check with your child on what supplies they need to replenish in their desks.
Spelling words will go home tomorrow as usual.
March BINGO reading sheets were due today, tomorrow morning will be acceptable.

Country Week - France
Well, we're here! The week before Spring Break. Reports cards are done. Student-led conferences are complete. It's country week...and it's snowing.
Each day this week students will rotate through stations that will teach them about the culture, music, dance, sport, art and food of France. On Thursday evening we will meet together in the evening to celebrate all the learning happening at school this week.
On Wednesday we will be heading to MTYP for the afternoon to see ZooZoo. I may require one more driver so if you are available please let me know. Please remember to send a booster seat if your child requires one. Also, students should wear their blue BSLS shirts for the trip.
New spelling words will not be sent home this week.
Reading BINGO pages can be completed over Spring Break.
You have probably already seen our classroom community project but here are a few pictures of it coming together.
